Awards to Develop Knowledge-based Disruptive Startups at Institut Pasteur de Montevideo : Montevideo, Uruguay
The IP Montevideo and CITES are now launching an international call to bring together in 2017 research & innovator group leaders willing to create Startups addressing relevant problems in human, animal or environmental health (http://cites-gss.com/en/citesipmon/).
Typically, funding will support disruptive research aiming to discover and further develop relevant biotechnological products or services with the potential to pursuit intellectual property protection and commercialization of the invention. Potential focus of proposals include – but are not limited to- drug discovery, biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, biomaterials, nanoscience and computational biology.
The awards are for scientists/entrepreneurs having an extensive training in research (PhDs, MDs, Chemists, Engineer) who have an exciting and original research & development project, with commercial or high socio-economic potential. Actual or near future intellectual property is mandatory.
The following proposal's features will be considered for the evaluation:
• Highly innovative technology with solid scientific foundations.
• Well-defined, feasible and achievable objectives for the defined project period.
• Clear definition of the market problem addressed by the research and analysis of
the market potential.
• Understanding of the current state of the art and provable freedom to operate with regard to intellectual property.
The IP Montevideo & CITES will strongly encourage, support and value research collaboration with our already established groups as a mechanism to potentiate innovative research.
Awards for each Startup will allow a 2-year incubation/acceleration fully supported by funding obtained through agreements with private partners. Each selected group will receive a basic internal funding of USD 500.000 cash + USD 100.000 Services in Kind (according to the specific financial needs), laboratory facility (30 mts2) and open access to the IP Montevideo core facilities. At the end of the period, the Startup will also have the possibility to develop a "Spin-Off" initiative.
The selection of applications includes a four-step process: 1) Go/No Go screening; 2) Incubator Staff Venting; 3) Due Diligence; 4) Investment Committee (http://cites-gss.com/en/citesipmon/).
To apply candidates must submit by email the following: i) Current CV with bibliography, ii) Narrative of critical discoveries, intellectual property status and future research and development plans (4 typewritten pages), iii) Market analysis (2 pages).

The mission of IP Montevideo is to generate knowledge and technological advances through research in benefit of the human and animal health, promoting biotechnological development and startup generation. CITES (Centre for Technological, Entrepreneur and Social Innovation, Sunchales, Santa Fe, Argentina) from Sancor Seguros Group, is LATAM's first high technology incubator with the mission to generate a technology based business conglomerate and to play a linking role between research, productive, social and business sectors. CITES is working in an interdisciplinary way to identify, develop and bring to the market new technology-based companies and to train human resources with an interdisciplinary and comprehensive model so they can handle both technological and business models.
